An exceptional find for any Rolling Stones fan or serious rock memorabilia collector. This ultra-rare crew tour satchel dates back to the legendary 1981 “S.T.A.B.” tour — an insider name used for the Stones’ entourage hotel groups, newsletters, and day sheets.
On this run, S.T.A.B. was widely known as “Stones Touring American Band,” tied to the band’s first U.S. tour in several years supporting “Start Me Up” from Tattoo You. As Spin later joked, it also stood for “Start The American Boys,” a perfect snapshot of the band’s swagger in that era.
Through the ’90s, “ST” always stood for “Stones Touring,” with the final two letters changing every new tour. These insider codes appeared on hotel party invites, newsletters, and at the top of the daily schedules. This satchel was part of that world: a tour gift to crew and entourage that originally came packed with tour merch.
The bag features:
- Leather patch embossed with the iconic Rolling Stones lips logo and “S.T.A.B. ’81”
- Heavy-duty adjustable strap
- Snapped-in vinyl lining for durability on the road
Condition: Used on tour, with light wear consistent with age and authentic road use. Overall in great vintage condition.
Provenance: From the personal collection of Showco alum Johnny “JW” Roberts, who worked directly on the tour.
This is a unique and fully authentic piece of Rolling Stones history — not a reproduction, but the real deal from the road.
